Responsible Gambling Help
If gambling is costing you more money, time or peace of mind than you planned, free and confidential help is available 24/7.
National helpline: 1-800-MY-RESET
Call 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), 24/7, run by the National Council on Problem Gambling. You can also text 800GAM, or visit 1800myreset.org.[1]
Warning signs
- Spending more than you planned, or chasing losses.
- Borrowing money or selling things to play.
- Hiding how much you play from people close to you.
- Feeling restless or irritable when you try to stop.
- Playing to escape stress, worry or low mood.
Recognising one or two of these is a reason to talk to someone — you don’t need to be “in crisis” to call.
Practical steps that help
- Set limits before you start — money and time — and stop when you reach them.
- Block gambling sites and apps on your devices with blocking software or your phone’s screen-time settings.
- Ask your bank about gambling blocks on your card; many US banks offer them.
- Remove saved logins and delete gaming apps.
- Talk to someone — the helpline, a counsellor or a peer group such as Gamblers Anonymous.
Worried about someone else?
The same helpline supports family and friends. Calling to ask how to start a conversation is completely normal.
